Laptop Display

  1. Difference between VGA and HDMi

MDP to HDMI adapter

Depending on your laptop, connect either the VGA cable or HDMI cable to your laptop. If you are using a Mac, you will need to use the HDMI cable with the Mini Display Port (MDP) to HDMI adapter.

  1. Touch the Laptop VGA or Laptop HDMI button on the screen (depending on which cable you used). The projector will turn on and take about a minute to warm up.
  2. Turn on your computer; wait as it communicates with the projector.

If the laptop does not detect a connection to the projector, follow these instructions:

Mac

  • Under the Apple icon click System Preferences/Display/Detect Displays
  • Under the Arrangement Tab, click Mirror Displays

PC

  • Hold down the "Windows logo" key and tap "p"
  • Select Duplicate to clone display

Signs of a broken VGA cable: pins appear bent or image has noticeable color tint.

Laptop Audio

VGA

If you are displaying using VGA, there is a small cable attached to the end of the VGA cable that is used to play audio. Plug the cable into the headphone port on your laptop to output audio through the system. 

HDMI

If you are displaying using HDMI, there is no other cable needed to output audio. However, you may have to go into your audio playback devices and select the HDMI audio device.

  • To do this on a Mac, go to System Preferences -> Sound -> Output and select the Extron HDMI audio device
  • To do this on a PC, go to the Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback and click the Extron HDMI audio device and then click Set Default.

Controlling Volume

The volume control is on the AMX touch panel labeled Program Volume. There is also a mute button beneath the volume slider. To hear the audio, please make sure the volume is not too low or muted on your laptop.


Blu-ray DVD Display

  1. Touch the Blu-ray DVD Player button on the screen
  2. Make sure the Blu-ray player is turned on; insert media and press Play using the playback controls on the AMX touch screen or remote controller.
  3. The volume control is on the AMX touch panel and labeled Program Volume. There is also a mute button beneath the volume slider.

The installed Blu-ray player may ONLY play standard formats. To play video from other regions or VHS, please make a reservation to checkout the apporpriate player to hook up in the classroom.


Auxiliary Video Display (Multi-regional Players, Video Cameras, VCR)

  1. Connect the video cable to the connector on the panel (may require an adapter)
  2. Connect the audio cables to the connectors on the panel (may require an adapter)
  3. Touch the Aux Video button on the AMX screen
  4. Make sure the external device is turned on
  5. Control the volume with the Program Audio slider on the touch panel.

Turn OFF the projector power on the touch screen. Raise the screen.

Display Troubleshooting Tips (no image on the screen):

  • Check if the Blank the Screen button is activated.
  • Touch another source button on the AMX screen and then select the desired source again.
  • In some cases your device may need to be restarted when connected to the VGA cable.

Determining the Model of the Document Camera

ETS provides different models of document cameras (also known as ELMO, Doc Cam, or Visual Presenter).  Setup is slightly different depending on the model you are using.

Set Up the Document Camera

  1. Locate the power cord wrapped on the document camera cart and plug it in to a nearby wall outlet (see image right, power ports are marked in YELLOW.)
    If the document camera is permanently installed in your classroom the power should already be connected.
  2. Plug VGA cable from the Black Box into the VGA extension cord mounted on the cart. If the cart does not have a VGA extension cord, plug the VGA cable directly into the RGB OUT (see image right, VGA ports are marked in GREEN.)
  3. Press and hold the power button for about 2-3 seconds to turn on the document camera.

Operating the AMX Touch Panel

  1. Touch anywhere to wake up the AMX control panel located in the Black Box.
  2. Select the corresponding source for document camera. (ie. LAPTOP or LAPTOP/DOC CAM or VGA 1.)  This action will power on the projector and set it to the correct display source.
    Once the projector is warmed up you should see the document camera image. 

Using the Document Camera

You can adjust the light bar and camera head as desired.  The document camera can display acetate transparencies, normal piece of paper, or 3-D objects.  You can also zoom in and out to show the desired level of details.

Zoom In/OutELMO-doc cam-dial

Zoom the image in and out by rotating the zoom dial next to the camera head. Press the center of the dial to auto focus (image right, marked in BLUE.

Lighting Control

 

The light bar can be adjusted as desired, and can be turned on or off by pressing the down button on the directional pad next to the LCD screen (image right, marked in PURPLE.)

Tips for Using the Document Camera

  • Place a piece of white paper underneath the acetate transparencies; adjust the light bar to minimize any glare.
  • Use the LCD screen on the document camera as reference to adjust and verify proper placement of objects.
  • Make an appointment with a classroom technologist to find out about other advanced features such as using it with your laptop and recording images or video onto a SD card.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • If the document camera is not projecting, try selecting a different source on the touch panel then return to desired source.
  • If the projected image is distorted or color is not accurate, try disconnecting the VGA cable then reconnect.

Operation

Clip the microphone onto your clothes. For optimal voice amplification, clip the microphone about 6” below the chin. An easy way to determine the distance is to spread your hand with your thumb and pinkie finger extended. With your thumb placed at your chin, your pinkie finger pointing down will determine the spot to clip the microphone. The body pack can be clipped on the waistband or placed in a pocket.

 

Turn on the microphone by flipping the small switch on top of the body pack to ON. After a few seconds the light next to the switch should turn green. If the light stays red, the battery is no good and needs to be switched out for a new one.

Locate the volume knob labeled Wireless on the microphone panel and turn up. Depending upon the room the panel could either be located on the back wall of the stage, side of the podium, or workbench. *Crackling and/or weak audio can result from a low battery life. Replacing the battery can resolve this issue.

 

Changing the Battery

Turn the body pack upside down. Press thumb on the latch that says open. Remove battery and replace with a fresh 9V battery. *Make sure the battery is placed in correctly.
